First off, how is this JR Cathers debut novel. I stayed up all night and finished this book around noon today. Zero sleep. I was OBSESSED.
Where do I even start???
Think Bridgerton with Fea & Assassins
She’s an orphan, trained as an assassin from young childhood. Her first mission is to kill a king from a foreign land any way possible, even if it’s to make the king fall in love with her. The MMC….well we can’t tell you who he is yet 🙈
“Do you make a habit of taking women you don’t trust to bed?” “I do not, but if anyone could persuade me, it would be you.”
“I’ve already told you that I am yours. Now let me show you what it means to be mine.”
The author does an incredible job with character building, not only with the Fea/Drakai/Feyn but the sprites too! So many amazing side characters and the Shadow Master 👀
Throughout the book, both main characters have such great character development and growth, especially the FMC who really struggles with trust issues. There are so many mysteries and unanswered questions that keep you questioning, guessing and hunting for Easter eggs.
And that ending. I was screaming 😱 excuse me, I need book 2 immediately. I will definitely be suffering a book hanger from this.
