The Exorcism of Faeries Book Summary From Goodreads
From the #1 bestselling author of Autumn of the Grimoire, J.L. Vampa, comes a brand new dark academia romance in the vein of Ninth House meets If We Were Villains and Nocticadia.
She is the daughter of morticians, studying Botany at Trinity College, Dublin. He is her Morbid Anatomy professor. And the Fae are possessing the good people of Dublin. Only Atta and Professor Murdoch can exorcize the fae, but can they fight their forbidden feelings for one another in the process?
It is said they are but lore.
It is said they are but demons.
It is said this is but a plague.
Wayward spirits.
Ghosts.
Spectres.
Ghouls.
The truth beckons
Tick flick tick
The clock keeps time with the candle
Until they all get sick
Wax slides down the gilded stick
And the Fae invade with bramble

He always reads standing in front of the shelf, one hand shoved in his pocket until it’s time to flip the page. It’s the first thing I noticed about him, while I was supposed to be studying. Instead, I watched him move from shelf to shelf and book to book. I had no idea at the time that I would one day meet him and he would change everything.
We would change everything.

My Thoughts on The Exorcism of Faeries
This is a dark academia novel with a hint of romance. It’s not your typical book when you think of faeries and I absolutely loved that. Sometimes it can feel like you’re reading the same stories with different names and this definitely wasn’t the case. This book was so easy to read and it flows so good. The author writes so beautifully and I didn’t want to put it down.
I’m a science girly (MSH) and my dad has owned a garden nursery for 40+ years, so I feel like this novel was written for me.
The MMC is a grumpy and particular professor teaching Morbid Anatomy and the FMC is a determined and fiery soul studying Botany but she grew up working in her families mortuary. She’s in her late 20s and we don’t really know his age, it’s hinted at 30s-40s. She took a break between undergrad and grad school and he’s one of the youngest professors in Trinity History. It’s set in the late 1980 to early 1990s and in Dublin, Ireland.
She’s about to be kicked out of college and ends up being a TA…for him. And he doesn’t want a TA, but he accepts one doing it as a favor for a friend. There’s a plague raging Dublin and she’s been studying it on her own and he’s part of a secret society who’s been looking for a cure.
I really nerded out with this book. I loved all of the science and botany aspects. Even though it’s dark academia, not much of the book is centered around classes and classmates which can be refreshing from the typical dark academia trope. It’s a duel POV book and the romance is on the back burner and the plot is front and center. I feel like this can be a stand alone book, but the ending sets it up that it can be part of a series. I love the no cliff hanger aspect.
