Souls in Ruin Book Review
Souls in Ruin by Jacqueline White
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice Level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️.5
Check trigger warnings before reading. This book had me in an absolutely chokehold 🙈 I think I devoured this book in under 2 days.
I cannot believe that Jacqueline White is a debut author….this book is darkkkk and I completely devoured it. And that ending 🤯 ummmm how long until book 2 is released……
So I’m new to Dark Fantasy Romance and I went into this book not really knowing what to expect. Let me tell you, I think I’ve found my new favorite genre. I don’t know what that says about me.

Favorite quotes:
“You should understand something, my little fawn,” “I am not good. I am not kind. That small, insignificant piece of your soul I took? I would take a thousand more.”
“I do not share my toys.”
“Do not compare us, Mireille, for you will find I am infinitely worse. Vharok plays at cruelty, but I invented it,” “I am not your salvation. I am not your hero. Do not mistake my regret for mercy.”
“If these chains were broken, if this wall between us was dust… I would show you the true meaning of divine intervention.”
Tropes:
- Enemies to lovers to enemies
- Touch her and die
- Forced proximity
- Captive x god x prisoner
- Touch starved
- Marriage of convenience
- Morally grey MMC & FMC

This book is not for the faint of heart. It will reach deep down into your soul and break it apart. The author has a way of making us feel all the emotions, even the ones we don’t want to. If you want a dark fantasy romance that will have you wanting to neglect all of your responsibilities and portal you directly into the book where you feel like an intruder, snag this up as quick as you can.
Thank you so much Jacqueline for the ARC to review.
